To automate or not to automate, that is the question!
Whilst the argument of ‘man versus machine’ has rumbled on for numerous years, most packing houses would argue that the perfect scenario for their clients’ is a hybrid of both. Automated packing is perfect for straight-forward processes but there are still many assembly projects which require human intervention due to being more intricate or having complex variables. At 24-7 Steller Packing, we believe that the future will continue to incorporate elements of both hand assembly and automated processing.
Adapting to new materials
It is imperative that the packing industry evolves and grows as sustainability becomes increasingly important for consumers. The Plastic Packaging Tax, introduced in April 2022, has further prompted many of our customers to opt for plastic-free packaging, as has the growing pressure from retailers to supply products in a plastic-free format.
We are seeing biodegradable, compostable or recycled materials in packing designs as customers are becoming more conscious of their waste. As a sustainable partner to our clients, we are fully geared up to handle these materials in our assembly and packing houses.

Coding matters
Product packaging and coding allows for manufacturers, retailers, and consumers to get all the necessary information about a product. All this information is extremely important to ensure that all items are sold in a safe, timely and secure manner. We stress to all clients that if they don’t follow these guidelines, it can be harmful to their products and business.
Coding errors are costly and in most cases, should be avoidable, especially as new technologies have been developed to prevent errors with message creation. We can resolve coding errors for our clients and we also regularly work with clients where items have been produced to the specification of the country of origin, which may have a different coding requirement to that of the UK. We flex with our clients and ensure we make the process as cost-efficient as possible.
24-7 Steller Packing can overlabel or recode components that have been incorrectly marked as part of its rework service. Furthermore, when creating “new” products such as gift sets or bundle packs, 24-7 Steller Packing is able to add coding to the finished product. This can be in the form of inkjet marking, or label application – whichever is most suited to the product. A great example of this is our batchcoding service, where the date of the shortest shelf-life product is used to add a date code to the product, so that retailers and distributors can manage their stock rotation efficiently.
